Length : 1 day
About the Retreat:
The Yi Jing is one of the oldest books in the world, and through the millennia, its wisdom has shaped the core of Chinese culture and civilization.
Due to its graphic symbolism (trigrams and hexagrams) and sometimes obscure language, it hasn’t achieved the same dissemination as other books of Chinese philosophy, like the Classical or Confucian books. Nevertheless, the Yi Jing is the root of all those books and the key to understanding the development of the Chinese wisdom.
Traditionally, it was believed that the principles of the I Ching originated with the mythical Fu Xi (伏羲 Fú Xī).
In this respect he is seen as an early culture hero, one of the earliest legendary rulers of China (traditional dates 2800 BC-2737 BC), reputed to have had the 8 trigrams (八卦 bā guà) revealed to him supernaturally.
By the time of the legendary Yu (禹 Yǔ) 2194 BC – 2149 BC, the trigrams had supposedly been developed into 64 hexagrams (六十四卦 lìu shí sì gùa),
which were recorded in the scripture Lian Shan (《連山》 Lián Shān; also called Lian Shan Yi).
Lian Shan, meaning "continuous mountains" in Chinese, begins with the hexagram Bound (艮 gèn), which depicts a mountain (¦¦|) mounting on another
and is believed to be the origin of the scripture's name.

With our coach, Dr. Cristina Bertrand, a renowned artist, a doctorate in Philosophy and Letters by the University Complutense of Madrid, Spain, also the
author of “Yi Jing: Image, Concept and Action”, we will experience:
A journey of learning, meditation, concentration and character building through the most important book of Chinese wisdom: the Yi Jing (Book of Changes)
With the workshop we will learn:
• The wisdom of the Yi Jing and how to apply it to the daily life
• Character building aided by the Yi Jing Landscapes
• Techniques of meditation and concentration based in the Yi Jing Cards
• Practice with problem solving through analysis and synthesis based in the Yi Jing.
The symbology of Nature makes it easier to understand through images – landscapes - which everybody can contemplate (mountains, lakes, rivers, thunder, forest, etc.); therefore, the Yi presented through our artist Cristina Bertrand´s paintings will make it accessible to the general public and will
enrich their lives with the Chinese eternal wisdom.

Loyally holding to our own truths.
we are the vessel receiving the waters of life while we receive without holding. It's everyone who strives to excel on his own terms,
to set and realize personal goals and achieve their own defining moment of greatness. The learning, the practice... and thus the connection with wisdom of life or in the other words Truth is what give us meaning and joy in life. |
Detached from the patterns in our mind by the life of the other
