About the retreat
Kai Style is the basic skill of calligraphy.
There is a saying in the old times: "Standing like Kai, Walking like Xing, Running like Cao." Kai, Xing, Cao are different styles of the calligaphy, it means that people must learn to stand before they can learn to walk or run. With Kai style practice, we can practice better basic skills for future progress.
In the past, fingerprints and handprints were used in East Asia - first impressed in clay, then printed on paper. Seals are often associated with an office or family, though personal seals are also very common. Earlier, similar devices such as the cylinder seals were used in Babylonia to make impressions on clay tablets.

Itinerary
Participant can join with zero experience. Itinerary will be adjust a bit by our teacher due to everyone's experience to Chinese culture. Day 1 09:00 Departure from Shanghai 11:00 Arrive dongshan area, relax walk to nature 12:00 Check in guest house and lunch 13:00 Seal carving workshop Chinese stamp history & basic skill to use tools Character choose, stone sanding, carving 16:00 Walk into nature 18:00 Dinner together 19:30 Knowledge sharing and debriefing 22:00 Good sleep Day 2 08:30 Breakfast 09:00 Theoretical Induction to Chinese calligraphy - Kaishu 楷书 09:30 Practice and acquire basic skills 12:00 Lunch 13:00 Develop our Creations & Comments 14:00 Summary of the 2 days & Sharing time 15:00 Relax walk into nature 16:00 Return Shanghai 18:00 Arrive Shanghai Transportation A private mini-bus will be arranged from/back to Shanghai downtown. Gathering Time: Please refer to the organization email which will send to you before departure. Place: (unless notified differently) Zhongshan Park Subway Station, Line 3-4, Exit 3 Beside the 7-Eleven shop Meals The meals include countryside local dishes, fresh vegetable and meat cooked in the traditional way. Simple and Healthy. Should you have especial requirements, please let us know beforehand. Accommodation We will stay in a local guesthouse that we choose according to their good service commitment. Friendly and Family atmosphere. Clean and simple.
