About the Retreat
A horseback activity in the dream land of Périgord region...
The Périgord,
which corresponds roughly to the current Dordogne departement of southwestern France,
is for many people the perfect image of the life of French countryside, a gentle landscape of patchwork fields,
hilltop towns, turreted mansions and jade green woods.
It is also the "spiritual home" to two of the country's enduring culinary passions - foie gras and the black truffle.
The Périgord region is famous for its stunning cave paintings,
as well as for its many fortified chateaux and bastide towns
- reminders of the bloody battles waged here during the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years' War.
There are four different geographic Perigord designations:
the White Perigord, the Purple Perigord, the Green Perigord and the Black Perigord.
This riding activity will take us in the Green Perigord, which is for nature lovers.
It was Jules Verne who nicknamed this area "Périgord Vert" for the first time.
Green like the meadows that spread out into the valleys of Isle, Donne or Bandiat,
green like the trees present throughout the department’s biggest cities: Nontron, Ribérac, Thiviers, and Brantôme.
In the midst of the forests of the Périgord,
Brantôme brushes the regional natural park of Périgord-Limousin, so the town includes a protected biosphere reserve.
There are also 2 other protected areas,
the Zone Spéciale de Conservation Natura 2000 with its sublime natural heritage,
and the natural zone of ecological, faunal and floral interests, which stands out for its large limestone cliffs along the river Dronne.
This activity is like a family activity with a small group (max 6 riders),
we will travel in full of nature, and sleep in the very big and comfortable tent (20M²) shared by 2 riders,
the meals will be cooked by local team with local fresh & seasonal products.

Tips before booking to help you make decision
- This is a sporting trail for experimented to advanced riders in a good physical condition!
- This trail requires good and fit riders, confident at all paces and able to ride several hours over varied and sometimes challenging terrain.
- For security reasons and for everyone's comfort, we ask riders to be enough confident to walk or trot independently through the forest, to canter or gallop alone on the sandy ways in the forest, in order to avoid the dust made by front riders.
- Hours in the saddle by day : 6 hours

Itinerary
Day 1. Welcome on site from 13:30 13:30 : presentation of the location, team, week and first meeting with your traveling companion. 14:30 : preparation of the horses before leaving for a 3 hours ride through the Perigord forests which will allow everyone to discover their horse, get back in the saddle and join our first dinner together. Day 2. 30km We leave at 9h in the morning, we cross a beautiful valley to reach another valley of stunning nature, we go deep into the heart of the natural park to reach a very cute local village, where we will spend the night. During the day, experience the river, the cliff rock, castle, river crossing are on the program of today…. Day 3. 25km Today we are going to a typical Perigord village…… We return by the crest paths to join the sweetness of our riverside camp and why not a swim with our horses if the weather allowing Day 4. 3h Today is more restful, We leave in the morning for a 3 hour ride through forests to reach our camp in the middle of the woods. The afternoon it's rest for our horse. a small nap, then we will visit the caves of the local. Day 5. 38km Big day, with 38 KM on HORSEBACK, we cross the forest of the upper Perigord to reach the beautiful valley and let's not forget to open our eyes, this day will be steeped in history…. Short break at Abbey and return to the site scheduled for 18h. Day 6. We leave for 7h on the horseback, our goal today is to reach the a wonderful place where we can enjoy the lunch on the cliff side. in the afternoon, we will take ancient Roman roads, a combination of the nature and history... Day 7. Departure of the riders in the morning after breakfast, and a last caress to your traveling companions.... Food & Accommodation 
About Accommodation
Camping in the nature with confort. Big tent of 20 square meters (2 riders per tent) Beds on box springs, dry toilet and electricity supplied by a solar system (lights, what to connect phone… ..) About Meal picnic pulled from the saddlebags at noon except on days 1, 4 and 6. In the evening, dinner prepared as much as possible with local and seasonal products! Moment of relaxation, sharing and conviviality… .. About Equestrian guide & supervision Your guides, qualified equestrian guides, very experienced and passionate. They will have a lot of pleasure to accompany you and to make you discover the horses, the horsemanship and the region. About Horses The cavalry is made up of excellent school horses, of all levels, used to evolving independently of each other, thus guaranteeing greater safety and faster and more efficient learning for our trainees. About saddlery The saddlery is a quality saddlery, English saddles of very good quality and well maintained, suitable for hiking. About climate : The summer in Dordogne Valley is often dry, with plenty of sunshine. It's quite hot, averaging 30°C About Gathering : On the arrival day after 13:30 at the equestre center Insurance : Your travel insurance should cover you for the riding activities to be undertaken. Your guides will require your travel insurance details before they allow you to ride and may refuse to let you ride if you cannot provide them. You should take your insurance documents with you.
