About the Retreat
- It's an exhilarating trail, with lot of thrilling sceneries over wild valleys framed by rugged peaks as eagles and vultures soar overhead.
- 4 days far away from the civilisation, taking advantage of all the opportunities to approach herds of horses Savage of the Basque country, “the Pottocks“, protected by their proud and brave stallion! 4 days discovering the culture of the Pays Basque people and the reason why they want to protect themselves and wanted for few of them living apart from France.
- This trek is really exciting and requires real fit intermediate rider confident at all paces, able to ride 6 to 7 hours each day over varied and sometimes challenging terrain. All the opportunities to trot or to canter offered by the landscape are taken. The trail in very few occasional and difficult sections will ask the rider to walk near his horse. But the horses are fit, willing and sure-footed over this rugged terrain.
- Lunches are leisurely and relaxed, often followed by a short siesta. Lunches and dinners are made from typical food from Pays Basque and prepared by the owner of the 2 stars accommodations.
- We will pass a very famous town, This quoted hurdy-gurdy, major passage of the pilgrims on the Way to Santiago de Compostela, an Unesco World Heritage Site, is worth to be discovered by foot the arrival day. There, the clients will find plenty of little shops and will choose a typical restaurant for the evening with the group.
- 2 more restful days, riding on endless beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, ventilated by the marine breeze. It’s also time for exciting gallops on the white sand of the Aquitaine Coast, and sometimes, if weather conditions are with us, bathing in the middle of waves.

- This trail requires good and fit riders (intermediate to Advanced), confident at all paces and able to ride several hours over varied and sometimes challenging terrain.
- For security reasons and for everyone's comfort, we ask riders to be enough confident to walk or trot independently through the forest, to canter or gallop alone on the sandy ways in the forest, in order to avoid the dust made by front riders. On the beach, riders must be able to gallop alone or by groups of two or three riders, and to leave and come back to the group under a good control.
- Riding pace: Moderate in the mountain with some fast sections each time when/where possible. Fast and long gallops in the Landes Forest and on the Beach.
- Hours in the saddle by day : 6 - 8 hours
- Total km/day : from 30 to 40 km
- Total riding days : 6 full days
- Horse Breeds: for majority Anglo-Arabs. They are safe, brave and easygoing; well trained, very well-balanced as they live in herds and outside. They have nice and friendly connections with the man.
- Horse Tack: English saddle of very good quality and adapted for the trail. The riding center provides saddle bags.

Itinerary
Day 1. Sunday. Arrival day. Transfer from Bordeaux Airport (before 14h) to the meeting point with riders arriving by plane or train. After meeting the group, visit of a very old and famous town. Dinner common to a typical Basque restaurant in the middle of the historical part of this town. (the only meal paid by rider) Night in a 3 stars Bed and Breakfast. Day 2. Monday. 5.5 hours on horse Start from the old town to the mountain it he south. Breakfast at 08h00 and departure at 10h00. Discovery of the famous village by horse. The goal is to get at the top of the of summit to get a 360° magnificent view on the surroundings, on the Aldudes valley and the ocean. Night in mountain Guest House Day 3. Tuesday. 6 hours on horse 10.00. Departure for the Summits of mountain and view on Spain ! We’ll stay 2 hours at the top of a ridge line between France and Spain, a new magnificent 360° view on the surroundings: “Quint country and Spain”. We are at 1300 meters of Altitude and may see at more than 100 km around us! 14h00 Lunch at the top of the mountain . 18h00 Arrival to the village of the mountain, pictorial village of the the Valley and night at a very charming mountain hotel. Day 4. Wednesday. 4 hours on horse 10h30, time to discover the traditional life of the Basque people in the valley and the black and white porc Kintoa saved 20 years ago from the extinction . 12h00 Lunch in a restaurant testing the Basque speciality and the local wine. 14h30 Ascent of the mountain and the spanish side. Then crossing of the Spanish virgin forest – an unforgettable moment! 18h30 Dinner with testing the famous trouts of the Banca Valley River. . Night in the as hotel as last day. Day 5. Thursday. 10.00 ascent and crossing the pass of El Elhorrieta. Discovery of “Kromlech“, prehistoric graves from 22 000 Years before J.C. New 360 ° view on the French valley, Spain and the ocean. 12h00 Descent towards the pass of Ispéguy. 13h00 Lunch in a typical Spanish restaurant. 15h0 Thrilling descent by smugglers path toward Erratzu Spain village. Crossing the picturesque countryside and the nearest city on horseback. 17h30 It’s time to put all the horses in the truck and start to the Atlantic Coast by minibus. 20h30 Dinner on the way 22h00 settlement in The local Guest House With Swimming Pool for 3 nights . Day 6. Friday & Day 7. Saturday. 2 days trail on the ocean shore. 5 hours on a horse/ day The rhythm of the ride is changing, it is the time to enjoy long and fast gallops in the hugest forest of Europe, with sometime large views on the most beautiful beach of France. It’s also the time of exciting gallops on the white sand of the Aquitaine Coast and the most beautiful beach of Europe. The ride may be also on the beach on Saturday evening, with the sunset on the beach if the tide is late in the evening. Dinner in a nice restaurant with seafood or traditional local meals. Day 8. Sunday. Departure after breakfast A transfer is organised for our guests from village to Bordeaux airport or Bordeaux railway station. (flight departure time from Bordeaux not before 13h00, there are 2 hours driving from the village to airport!) About Accommodation & Meals 8 days / 7 nights in full Board, but the first dinner is not included in the price . 1st night in a 3 stars charming Guesthouse 2d night in Mountain Guest House in altitude 3d and 4th nights in a 2 stars hotel in Valley of Banca. 5th , 6th and 7th nights in a 2 stars Local Guest House Dinner different restaurants each night offering traditional local meals or seafood Dinner in Restaurant or Hotel : 2 glasses of wine or 2 Soda, tea or coffee are included Lunches are organized by the Riding Center, soda and wine without restrictions are provided. About Guide : English speaking guide, having a good knowledge of the mountain ride and Landes. He will be concerned about making you discover his lovely country in the South West of France. About climate : The climate in this region of France is an oceanic climate due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Summers are hot and stormy, averaging 23 ° C, while winters are rainy and relatively cool (average 6 ° C).
