Zhejiang wild life

This province is a mountainous region of the Eastern China; a land of more than a 1000 small summits, without being very high (<1500m) they are none the less often challenging and offer majestic views.

Ever green bamboo and pine forest combined with numerous other plants and microclimates, abundant water reservoirs, lakes and rivers offer resources and habitat to the birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects and small mammals. All of which reveal like a rainbow of disguises during the 4 subtropical and marked seasons.

The complicate geography of its numerous valleys, canyons and creeks creates a territory that even with the pressure of the growing urbanization, the development of transportation, the many hunters and agriculture that it has been challenged with still host numerous species of wild life.

For spotting this incredible and animated world the best moments are the early morning for the birds, mammals and reptiles. Or the summer nights near a light for the insects.

Walking in a small group is a good way to enter the green kingdom where many ancient paths lead to a thick labyrinth of plants. Quietness is adviced to spot the birds and few moments of stillness will be enough to listen to numerous species. However it's better to alert the reptiles in the small paths with some noises to prevent encounters with snakes which like to warm up after a cool night.

For the safety, good equipment (hiking boots) and carefully following the recommendations of a local expert are always advised.

With every step that we make, develop the awareness and respect for the heritage of the world.

Don't collect samples of plants or animals, if desired take pictures without damaging what we observe.
